Pain Management

"No pain, no gain."

"Pain is just weakness leaving the body."

"Move it or lose it."

These are just some of the mottos that people with chronic pain bring with them to the Kaiser Pain Management and Rehabilitation Program, a 6-week intervention, followed by ongoing support, and featuring a team of medical doctors, nurses, psychologists, physical therapists, pharmacists, and movement specialists. Lorien is one of these movement specialists, along with practitioners of Qi Gong and Feldenkries.

The first two statements listed above are the foundations of unconscious movement, and for those with chronic pain, the beginning of a dysfunctional relationship with the body. The third statement works, as long as those with chronic pain remember to move intelligently. Small, subtle work can be very healing, and participants in the program are advised to remember what they can do, rather than focus on what they can't do. This program aims to holistically manage chronic pain by befriending the body, developing awareness and identifying tools for ways to live with chronic pain.

This program is offered by doctor referral only through the Kaiser Pain Management organization.
