Living Better With Yoga and Cancer

Through lecture and practice you'll be introduced to yogic tools that support your body's defenses against cancer. This workshop is open to professionals working with cancer, caregivers, those who are in treatment as well as cancer survivors. Included in the workshop is a 75-minute practice that is appropriate for everyone.

All energy levels, abilities, stages of cancer and types of cancer are welcome, and no previous experience with yoga is required.

Learn evidence-based yoga tools that empower, bring peace of mind and support your organic defenses against cancer in a beautiful healing environment. Lean in to the support of your community to connect and reflect on your experience with cancer. 

A typical day may include meditation, asana (yoga postures), delicious meals, exploring the redwoods, time in the pool, sauna or spa, massage, discussion about cancer, chanting, reading, napping… Do as little or as much as you want – this weekend is designed to help you explore ways to balance your mind, body, emotions and spirit. You’ll leave with a feeling of relaxation, rejuvenation and the development of new life skills you can utilize to achieve a greater sense of healthy living and optimal wellness. 

Fee includes meals, lodging and yoga; massage is separate fee. All stages and types of cancer welcome. No previous experience with yoga is required. Women only, please. Register by emailing healthpsyk@gmail.com.

Learn how to offer evidence-based yoga tools to people dealing with cancer in any setting: general population yoga class, private yoga therapy, yoga class specific to people with cancer, or in the hospital rooms. Through a combination of lecture and practice, you'll learn the following topics. Some teaching practice with peers and students with cancer will be included.

Oct 7-9: What You Need to Know About Breast Cancer

  • Breast cancer terminology
  • Common treatments and their side effects
  • Reconstruction options and their side effects
  • Psychological aspects of breast cancer
  • Contraindications for lymphedema and structural issues
  • Daily practices

Oct 14-16: What You Need to Know About ALL Cancers
  • What is cancer
  • Supporting the immune response
  • Other cancer terminology
  • Common treatments and their side effects
  • Psychological aspects of specific cancers
  • Contraindications for certain cancers and treatments
  • General practices for mixed-cancer classes
  • How to create a safe, inviting space
  • Compassion fatigue
Requirements
  • You must have at least a 200-hour yoga teacher certification. 
  • You must enroll in both weekends; the only exception is if you have completed Lorien's Living Better with Yoga and Breast Cancer weekend intensive in Georgia in April.
This intensive includes 6 hours of directed mentorship in one of Lorien's classes; a more robust mentorship program can be scheduled for a fee. Coordinate this with Lorien directly.
